Data Source Emulation: CIP

Sym3 can simulate the CIP PLCs and allow Sym3 CIP data source to access its tags as a Allen-Bradley PLC or Omron PLC.

The CIP PLC Emulation listens on all network adapters on port between 1 and 65535.

Sym3 only reponds to read or write tag commands for tags.

Create a new Data Source

A Data Source can be defined in Sym3, right click on Project Explorer > Data Sources then select ‘CIP (Allen-Bradley ControlLogix)’ OR ‘CIP (Omron NJ)’ from the ‘New PLC Emulation’ menu.

Select the newly created Data Source and in the Property Editor and rename as necessary.

You can specify the Port number Sym3 will be listening to (Any value from 1 to 65535). Default is 44818.

Adding a CIP Tag

Click on the Property Editor option in the Ribbon bar to open the Property Editor Panel.

Create Tags in the Tag Manager Window using the + button.

Enter a Name for the Tag in Sym3 and the Data Source for the Tag.

A Data Type must be entered for the Tag.

The Tag Address is the name of the tag as used on CIP PLC.

Note: Tags having “[0]” (index) in address are not supported in CIP Emulation Data Sources.
