Install/Uninstall Sym3 Operator

Requirement: you need to be administrator in order to install any Sym3 software.

Installation

The installer is composed like this:

  • Sym3OperatorBundle_x64.exe: The main Sym3 Operator installer
  • Redist folder:
    • ndp48-x86-x64-allos-enu.exe: .Net Framework v4.8
    • dotnet-runtime-8.0.4-win-x64.exe: .Net Core v8
    • aspnetcore-runtime-8.0.4-win-x64.exe: Asp.Net Core v8
    • MicrosoftEdgeWebView2RuntimeInstallerX64.exe: Edge View 2

Steps to install Sym3 Operator:

  • Execute Sym3OperatorBundle_x64.exe.
  • Read and acknowledge the software agreement.
  • Click Install.

The installer will install the dependencies if required and enable some Windows features automatically (IIS Server).

Then you will be asked to select the options you want. You are free to install what you need but here are some typical installation:

  • Server installation:

    • Sym3 Server (Sym3 service, alarm service and replay service)
    • Sym3 Client App
    • Sym3 Editor
    • Sym3 License Manager (all services need to be licensed)
    • Sym3 Web
    • Sym3 Auth
    • Offline Documentation
  • PC Client installation:

    • Sym3 Server (Sym3 service, alarm service and replay service)
    • Sym3 Client App
    • Sym3 Editor
    • Sym3 License Manager (the PC client doesn’t need to be licensed)
    • Sym3 Web
    • Sym3 Auth
    • Offline Documentation
  • Project Configuration (Engineer):

    • Sym3 Server (Sym3 service, alarm service and replay service)
    • Sym3 Client App
    • Sym3 Editor
    • Sym3 License Manager (to license the editor)
    • Sym3 Web
    • Sym3 Auth
    • Offline Documentation

First Installation

If you are installing Sym3 Operator for the first time, Sym3 won’t be licensed. All services will start, they will log an error and stay idle (doing nothing). You will need to use “Sym3 License Manager” to license Sym3 and restart all services.

Upgrade

If you need to upgrade Sym3 Operator, it is recommended to uninstall first and then install the new version.

Note: Your license won’t be lost while updating.

The setting files (*.config.xml) located in C:\ProgramData\Sym3\Sym3 Operator ARE NOT deleted when uninstalling (this was the case in v9). Meaning that it is no longer required to backup those files if you wish to install a new version of Sym3.

Uninstallation

Note: Your license won’t be lost while uninstalling.

To uninstall Sym3 Operator:

  • Open Windows Settings.
  • Select App & features.
  • Search for ‘Sym3 Operator’.
  • Uninstall.

Clean uninstall

When you uninstall Sym3 Operator. Some data will remain on your disk. If you need to clean those data, please do the following:

  • Delete the folder C:\ProgramData\Sym3\Sym3 Operator
  • Delete the folder C:\ProgramData\Sym3\Sym3 Web
  • Delete the folder C:\ProgramData\Sym3\Sym3 License Manager
  • Delete the folder C:\ProgramData\Sym3\Sym3 Auth Server
  • Delete the folder C:\ProgramData\Sym3\Cache
  • Delete the folder C:\Users\xxx.yyy\AppData\Roaming\Sym3\Sym3 Operator (where xxx.yyy is you account name)
  • Make sure this folder has been removed: C:\Program Files\Sym3\Sym3 Operator

If you need to completely remove your license (WARNING - Your license will be lost):

  • Delete the folder C:\ProgramData\Nalpeiron

If you need to delete the certificates (WARNING - Your certificates will be lost):

  • Delete the folder: C:\ProgramData\Sym3\cert
